Kanye West

"Family Business"

Last night I was listening to The College Dropout - which is probably still my favorite Kanye album, despite perhaps not being his best album - and “Family Business”, long my favorite track on the album, came up.

Consider this: “Family Business” might be Kanye’s best song. Sure, you can argue that “Gone” is better produced, with great features and maybe Kanye’s best delivery. You could argue that “Gorgeous” has West’s lyrics at their whip-smartest. “Family Business”, though, is the most genuinely heartfelt thing he’s ever written. It’s just him, that beautiful, simple beat, and that fantastic choir singing the hook.

Jay-Z & Kanye West

"Why I Love You (feat. Mr. Hudson)"

Another choice cut from Watch the Throne. Jay-Z hasn’t sounded this sharp since The Black Album. Good god.

Kanye West & JAY Z

"Otis (Feat. Otis Redding)"

Watch The Throne comes out in two weeks. I thought “H.A.M.” was pretty lackluster, considering the genius that Jay-Z and Kanye are capable of. This seems way more on point. They sound like they’re really having fun, which is a great sign.
