To put it simply, music moves people. This blog is a collection of songs to move to, in some fashion or another. Whether it's physical - running, dancing, driving or what have you - or mental, music plays a tremendous role in many peoples' day to day lives. Some of these songs you'll probably have heard. Others will be completely new to you. Others still may be rediscoveries. My hope is to bring you a song each day that is not only enjoyable to listen to, but may also make your day just a little better.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik turned 20 a couple of months ago. While it holds up as a very good record, a lot of the songs don’t hold up well over time - even some of the singles. In listening to it the other day, I counted four songs that are indelible from the album - “I Could Have Lied”, “The Righteous & The Wicked”, “My Lovely Man”, and especially this, the album-opening “Power of Equality”. Enjoy

Queens of the Stone Age is one of the best bands out there right now. When Mark Lanegan steps in on vocals, there’s no contest, as “Hangin’ Tree” shows to be true.

Last night, I saw the Foo Fighters wrap up their North American tour at the Garden. The Joy Formidable were the opening act, and they were fabulous. The Foos played for nearly three hours, and Social Distortion sounded as tight as ever, but the best performance of a single song was TJF performing “Whirring” to a couple thousand early arriving concertgoers.

Midnite Vultures is mind-bogglingly good. I can’t even explain it.

A little Eels to mellow you out on a Saturday night. Yeah.

Desert Sessions - Like a Drug [Alternative]
Let this ruminate in your head for a while.

The Raconteurs - Level [Alternative]
Typically I hate long songs, but every time I listen to this, I wish it were four or five minutes longer, just so I could hear where Jack White would go with the guitar solos.

Weezer - The World Has Turned and Left Me Here [Alternative]
The blue album is 17 years old, and yet, it is still not only listenable, but excellent. It’s hard to make alternative that doesn’t feel dated, but Weezer’s first two albums certainly succeeded.

The Lemonheads - My Drug Buddy [Alternative]
I am a huge fan of The Lemonheads. It’s hard not to enjoy Evan Dando’s voice, and he’s perhaps at his best on “My Drug Buddy”, from the 1992 classic It’s a Shame About Ray. It’s also the inspiration for really the first great episode of Scrubs, one of my all-time favorite television shows.
